Trust me, I’m the first one to admit how difficult it can be to eat healthy & workout while you travel. (One of my jobs requires me to be on a plane almost every week. Eek.)
For some reason, its oddly exhausting lugging your bags around all day & sitting at the airport (Lol, don't laugh because you know it's true).
With that being said, I wanted to share some of my top tips to help you stay heathy & get some movement in while you travel for pleasure or work!
If you are traveling for fun & are deciding to take some time off the gym while your on vacation, thats totally okay.
But, if you did want to get in little sweat sesh & stay on track, check out some of the tips I've mentioned below!
Workout in the morning! When you’re traveling, you’ll probably going to be thrown out of your routine. Regardless if you’re a morning person or not, get your workout done in the morning. That way its done & you can enjoy the rest of your day.
You can also get in more movement throughout the day by walking everywhere that you can! Aim for 10k steps per day.
Bring all the high protein snacks! You’ll be able to get in plenty of carbohydrates & fats, but protein is a bit harder to get when you’re traveling. I always bring a bag full of my favorite protein bars, jerky & protein powders.
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep! Traveling can get pretty exhausting walking from place to place, lugging around your bags & changing time zones. I like to make sure I stick to a semi-normal sleep schedule & I always bring some lavender essential oils to help calm me down & make it smell more like home!
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Carry you water bottle with you at all times & aim for hitting between 100-120 oz. per day! Planes are extremely dehydrating for your body.
Get in all the veggies & maybe bring a greens supplement with you. Traveling can knock down your immune system, so it’s important to make sure that your body has all the micronutrients it needs to keep you healthy.
Do a little bit of research before hand about the area that you’ll be traveling to. Where is the closest gym? Nearest grocery store? Restaurants nearby? This will give you an idea of how you can plan out meals or workouts to help you stay on track.
When ordering food- focus on veggies & protein at every meal. My go-to is usually a salad with all the veggies, an extra serving of protein (usually chicken) & dressing on the side. That way I can control how much dressing I want to use & its not overloaded. :)
