Carbohydrate Myths

Coming in hot on the bike to BUST SOME MYTHS ABOUT CARBS. 🚲💨

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So.... there is NO SPECIFIC FOOD GROUP OR MACRONUTRIENT THAT LEADS TO WEIGHT GAIN. (For most cases, there's always outliers 😉)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For example, I was talking with a client & he asked about different snack ideas. I usually recommend higher protein snacks (because most people are low on their protein by the end of the day) but I always like to throw fruit or healthy fats into the mix. 🍎

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

His response to me was, “Wait, fruit has sugar & carbs in it. Isn’t that bad? Won’t that make me gain weight?” 🤔

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Well, yes. Fruit does have natural sugars in it & it is comprised of mostly carbohydrates, but no it’s not “bad” (because food doesn’t have morality) & no it’s not going to make you gain weight. 🙅🏼‍♀️

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Carbohydrates are used as the primary fuel source in your body.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you need to sprint through the grocery store to get the last bag of cookies, you're body uses carb stores. 🍪

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you’re dying in the middle of a CrossFit workout, your body is probably using carb stores. 😵

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Energy imbalances are the primary cause for weight gain.

Carbs don’t make you fat.

Fat’s don’t make you fat.

Protein doesn’t make you bulky. ✌🏻
